Watch an AMG 5.5L V8 Biturbo Glow Red in Testing [Video]
The 5.5-liter V8 also makes a hugely impressive 800Nm between 2,000rpm to 4,500rpm with 1.0 bar boost, while the 571hp version produces 900Nm between 2,500rpm and 3,750rpm because it uses 1.3 bars. At least that’s the figures we got when the M157 made its debut on the S63 AMG in 2010.
While turbocharging seemed like a bit of a compromise, Mercedes AMG stuck to the “ best or nothing” motto, so the 5.5-liter V8 is still thoroughly brutal and uncompromising. Just watch as the whole exhaust system turns red during routine bench tests that AMG conducted. Not even the BMW fans will be able to say they don’t like the vicious sound of that exhaust!
