Chinese company Wanxiang wants to restart Fisker Karma production as quickly as possible after acquiring the bankrupt company for $149.2 million earlier this week.
“We will want to get the Karma back online as quickly as possible,” Pin Ni, president of Wanxiang America, told The Boston Globe. According to Automotive News, production will resume in Finland in the coming months, but manufacturing will be moved to the US once European inventory is used up.
American assembly will reportedly take place at VL Automotive’s plant in Michigan. As you may recall, VL Automotive, a company co-founded by former GM executive Bob Lutz, recently unveiled a V8-powered, Karma-based concept car called Destino. The production vehicles will be powered by Corvette-sourced 6.2-liter LT1 engines.
Wanxiang will reportedly back the VL Destino, but will continue to roll out hybrid Karmas, as well as next-generation cars with range-extending powertrains.
