VW Mini Gol, Small Car for Little People

Caught up with the idea that a car, in order to be worth a look, must be big and powerful, we tend to forget sometimes that there are few among us who look at the world from a different height. For little people (or, if you like a more politically incorrect term, midgets), having a big car is pretty much superfluous.

There have been several attempts to provide little people with a decent means of transportation, but up until now, most of these attempts have concluded with modifications brought to existing cars rather than with the creation of a brand new vehicle.

Of course, little people have a few mini cars to choose from, but for the average carmaker, mini stands for shorter length and width rather than is height.

Volkswagen has been producing in Brazil, since the 1980s, a low cost subcompact called Gol. Slotted under the Fox and the Polo, the model gave birth in 2008 to the Mini Gol, a version which is around 30 percent of the size of the original and, what do you know, perfect for people suffering from dwarfism.

Only two such vehicles were built by the German manufacturer in Brazil and have been mainly used as show cars at auto events across Brazil. One of them is currently to be seen (and more) in the Beto Carreiro World theme park in Santa Catarina.

What's so exciting about it? Well, first of all, its size, of course. Secondly, the powertrain. The model is propelled by a 5.5 horsepower engine and can reach a top speed of 27 km/h (17 mph). To fit in it, you must be at most five feet tall (1.5 meters).
