VW Golf R Gets Upgraded by APS Sportec to 300 BHP
In standard form, the turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder Golf R produces 267 bhp (200 kW) and 258 lb.ft (354 Nm) of torque.
Sportec’s recalibration of the fuel, ignition timing and boost pressure settings made through an extensively proven ECU remap sees power output jump to 300 bhp (224 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 321 lb.ft (440 Nm) of torque at 2,750 rpm, a significant performance improvement brought to the four wheel drive Golf R superhatch's heart.
For example, the Golf R’s 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time is reduced from 5.7 to 5.3 seconds,
Suitable for both six speed manual and DSG versions of the Golf R, the Sportec Stage One upgrade package is available now from UK Sportec importer APS of Brackley, priced at £649, including installation, road testing and VAT at 17.5 percent.
German carmaker Volkswagen released technical details on the 2011 Golf R late last month, and is expected to release pricing information in the following weeks. The car is expected to hit dealerships in the first half of the year with a price tag set at around £22,000.
