When Volkswagen made the switch from the Mk5 to the Mk6 Golf, they did it not only because they wanted to change the esthetics, but also because they wanted to make more money. You see, their volume seller was also one of the car that took the longest to make, thus choking off their profits.
The Golf Mk7 will do even more for the bottom line. It uses a standardized platform called the modular transverse matrix (MQB), which is also used by the Audi A3 and will underpin every front-drive VW Group car.

Even the parts they use are being standardized nowadays, so you really will be able to say that all VW are the same.

But there can be no doubt that with the introduction of cylinder deactivation and start-stop technology, the all-new Golf will be desirable and more advanced.

So when is it coming? Well, according to a report from Autonews Europe, production will start in Wolfsburg and Zwickau in Germany, in early August. The new Golf will be shown at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September, and will go on sale at dealerships in November this year.
