VW Commercial Vehicles in Australia Come with ESP as Standard
The Caddy, Caddy Maxi van and Caddy Maxi Life have recently received the standard safety feature, together with the introduction of standard dual airbag. The largest vehicle in the line-up, the Crafter, has featured ESP as standard ever since it was introduced in 2006.
The ESP system prevents the vehicle from steering out of control (it has been engineered to correct both understeer and oversteer). The system permanently monitors the vehicle’s movement and compares it with predetermined values. If the vehicles starts to skid, the ESP individually applies the brakes (one ore more wheels can be involved, requiring different levels of braking) and adjusts the engine’s power output in order to bring the vehicle to the desired trajectory. The ESP has been designed to operate in all driving conditions.
"The Volkswagen brand has always stood for excellent safety, but we have now made a clear statement with safety standards across the board. With the introduction of standard ESP across the entire range, every People Mover and Commercial Vehicle now represents an even more sensible safety choice. The Electronic Stabilisation Program plays a vital role in reducing accidents and therefore saving lives.” said Phil Clark, Director of Commercial Vehicles.
