Vozz Hinged Helmets Might Be the Breakthrough in Head Protection

Australian company Vozz shows their RS 1.0 motorcycle helmet, proposing a new paradigm of what head protection should be like. The Vozz RS 1.0 helmet has a special design that comes with a hinge in the rear upper area of the head.

If you wish, we're talking about a clamshell design that promises to eliminate many of the shortcomings of actual helmet designs. For starters, Vozz says that their helmet offers a better fit, because its internal shape is much closer to the real shape of a rider's head.

This translates into better match with the shape of a rider's head, increasing both comfort and the protection factor. The clamshell design also provides easy helmet extraction in case of a crash, eliminating most of the risks taking off a traditional helmet comes with.

One of the shortcomings of this design is that riders will no longer be able to remove the lid with one hand only. Putting it on single-handedly might be easier, but taking it off would be impossible.

Perfect fit without a chin strap

Another interesting feature which might please riders is the fact that the Vozz RS 1.0 makes chin straps unnecessary. The lower front end of the helmet is a chin shell, with adjustable internal padding, and it protrudes under the rider's chin.

It generates less wind noise and buffeting, and also enhances the protection in that area, which is known to be one of the main impact zones in case of a crash. The lift effect is also reduced significantly, Vozz says.

The helmet opening can be now smaller, so the lid fits better around a rider's neck. Thanks to the fact that putting it on requires shutting the shells over the motorcyclist's head, entry and removal are way easier.

Vozz RS 1.0 is DOT and ECE certified and is also legal in Australia and New Zealand. The Vozz webshop will open in six days' time (at the time of writing) and the helmet will be available worldwide. The current price appears to be $888 (€810).

This needs more thinking, definitely, because there are more sides to this matter.
