Volvo V70 and S80, Now with 2.0 GTDi

Volvo has already introduced its new 2.0-liter GTDi four-cylinder diesel engine on the XC60, but the Swedish company is now also planning to introduce this specific unit on the V70 and the S80 models as well. The engine, which develops a maximum power of 203 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, is a member of the EcoBoost range developed by Ford, and will be also introduced on the upgraded Mondeo range in 2010.

It can be mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or an automated six-speed Geartronic.

According to autoblog.it, the 2.0-liter V70 will reach a maximum speed of 230 km/h, while sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Fuel consumption is obviously improved, with first figures pointing to 8.1 l/100km in combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 189 g/km.

As for the S80, it will hit 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds when equipped with a manual transmission, while an automatic configuration will increase the time to 8.5 seconds. CO2 emissions are dropping to 184 g/km, with fuel consumption going to 7.9 l/100km.

Volvo's V70 is currently offered with a choice of seven engines, three diesel and four petrol. The top-of-the-line unit is the 3.0-liter V6 that releases 285 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm. It propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and provides a maximum speed of 152 mph (245 km/h).

The S80 range on the other hand comprises 10 engines, four diesel and six gasoline, each of them tweaked to return fewer emissions and improved fuel economy.
