Volvo to Join V8 Supercars Series
Once the entry is approved, Volvo will take on the V8 Supercars series with a rear-wheel drive S60 model powered by the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine required by the Australian competition. The power output will probably be around 650 HP.
Besides the traditional Ford Falcons and Holden Commodores, Volvo will also battle the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Nissan Altima, this season’s two new entries. This won’t be the automaker’s first Australian touring car racing experience though. Volvo has an ATTC title to its name back in 1986, when Robbie Francevic won the series in a Volvo 240T.
In other related news, Volvo will unveiled the high performance S60 Polestar sports sedan on June 17. The vehicle will go on sale in Australia limited production run to help the automaker determine if the performance sedan will be introduced on other markets as well.
