Compared to August 2013, the Scandinavian manufacturer moved 8.4 percent more cars the former month, with global sales totaling 29,257 vehicles. In terms of year-to-date, Volvo moved 294,709 cars throughout the world, an improvement of 9.2 percent over the same 8-month period of 2013.
This positive momentum was especially driven by the 6,154 vehicles delivered in China, which translates to a 42.5 percent improvement over August 2013. Western Europe (except Sweden) was the second best market for Volvo Cars, with 8,918 cars sold, equating to a 19.4 percent hike. In its home market, Volvo enjoyed a 6.2 percent rise (3,167 cars sold).

Germany and France grew more than 50 per cent in August. The V40 was the best-selling model in Europe, the automaker reports. However, the U.S. and other markets didn't fare as well as the previously mentioned. The United States saw a 10.1 percent drop in August and just 4,961 cars delivered. Other markets did not perform as well and the 9.7 percent drop is evidence of that, moving just 6,057 cars.

The Volvo XC60 SUV was August's best-selling model with 8,695 units sold, followed by the Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country for which deliveries reached a total of 6,213 cars. As for the third best-selling model, that was the Volvo V60 with 3,584 examples delivered. China, the largest market for Volvo, was particularly fond of the Volvo XC60 crossover and the S60L sedan.

“With continued positive developments in key markets, Volvo Cars is clearly on track towards an all-time high sales result for this year,” said Alain Visser, senior VP of marketing, sales and customer service at Volvo Cars. “I am also extremely pleased with the positive reactions we saw at the global launch of the all-new Volvo XC90, which shows that we have chosen the right direction for our future models.”
