German carmaker Volkswagen has announced that the 2014 e-Golf EV will share its 2013 Geneva Motor Show stand with a Plug-In Hybrid version of the hatchback.
The Wolfsburg-based company says its new hybrid car will share Audi's A3 e-tron drivertrain and will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and a 101 HP electric motor.
Thanks to the above-mention combo and to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the vehicle is able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.6 seconds. Maximum speed on electric power alone is 81 mph, while the estimated range is up to 31 miles.
There's no word on fuel economy from Volkswagen yet, but we can't help wonder if the Golf will be able to match the 157 mph the Audi A3 e-tron is supposed to offer.
The Plug-In Hybrid Golf will be showcased early next month in Geneva, along the EV and the GTD versions.
