Volkswagen Reveals Limited-Edition Beetle GSR
Brought back in the spotlight from the 1970s, the GSR, which stands for Gelb Schwarzer Renner ("Yellow Black Racer"), is marketed as a future collectors' item Beetle for the 2014 model year.
As the name suggests, we're dealing with sporty German delight, in both trim and performance. With a turbocharged engine rated at 210 hp, a stunning yellow and black livery, and a GSR trim spread all over the interior, the Beetle GSR will be on sale in late 2013 as a limited edition of just 3,500 units. Volkswagen intends to sell more than half of these cars in the United States.
Considering the fact that this black over yellow machine will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.6 second and to reach an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph, things might be fun if buyers decide to take it for a spin on the track.
The first Beetle GSR was introduced forty years ago and it was based on a 1303S Kafer model, wearing the same striking yellow and black paint scheme.
