Volkswagen Group lost $6.27 million on each Bugatti Veyron supercar sold since the vehicle was launched in 2005, a study made by Berstein Research revealed last week.
If we were to believe this figure was accurate, basic mathematics would indicate that Volkswagen already lost an astounding $2.23 billion on the 357 Bugatti Veyrons sold from 2005 through 2013.
Moving on to more down to earth numbers, the Berstein study claims Vokswagen sells the Phaeton at a loss as well, which $38,252 lost with each unit. Next in line are the Renault Vel Satis - $25,459, the Peugeot 1007 - $20,927, and the Audi A2 - $10,247.
As a reminder, the Bugatti Veyron is powered by a quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine that delivers 1,001 HP, while the Super Sport and Grand Sport are rated at 1,200 HP. Bugatti has sold no less than 28 special edition Veyrons between 2007 and 2013, with more to follow.
