Despite the relatively high prices demanded by the German carmaker, the VW Polo is one of the best selling superminis in India, at least when it comes to premium models with decent build. Now, the smallest car VW sells in the country has added appeal, thanks to the introduction of the Polo SR (short for Sport Racer), which comes with the Aero-sport package (basically the R-line exterior package).
"Mix city driving with sports racing, in a car that's driven by innovation. The New Polo SR will have your heart racing even before you get into the driver's seat. Not only does it come with a surprisingly nippy 1.2L engine, it also comes wrapped in a snazzy new Aero-sport package. A combination that promises to make every drive, the drive," the official announcement reads.

That nippy engine they are referring to isn't the 1.2-liter TSI sold in Europe with either 90 or 105 hp. It's actually the three-cylinder base engine for the Polo with only 75 hp, equipped with a five-speed manual.

Still, better engines could become available, and the kit fitted to the Polo SR is impressive. This includes sporty side skirts, rear roof spoiler, a visible chrome exhaust tip, a different lower front bumper, fog lights, 15-inch alloys and some badging.

Inside, you get the better RCD 320 radio with US connectivity, climate control, rear parking sensors a multifunctional steering wheel and two airbags.

“The Polo is an important carline in the Indian portfolio and we would like to continuously keep it relevant and exciting for our customers. The Polo SR is a good choice for those looking to own a sporty hatchback." said Mr. Arvind Saxena, Managing Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
