Dubbed Gran Lavida and based on the Lavida compact sedan, which in turn is based on the older Volkswagen Jetta, the new hatchback/wagon offers more boot space and aims to become quite a popular figure among Chinese customers that are looking for a cheap estate.

Set to go on sale later this year, the Volkswagen Gran Lavida will become available with three engine options: two naturally aspirated gasoline 1.6- and 2.0-liter four cylinder mills, and a turbocharged 1.4-liter TSI powerplant.

Interestingly enough, the Volkswagen Gran Lavida seems to have borrowed its rear end from the Audi A3 Sportback, another member of the Volkswagen Group. Built by the Shanghai/Volkswagen joint venture the Gran Lavida will be sold in China exclusively.
