Yet, I don't like helicopters and I only use planes if I really have to. I'm a fan (age ... Continue reading >

German manufacturer Volkswagen announced today the release of its own designed winter tires, complete with light alloy rims and premium winter rubbers. The tires will be available for most of the Volkswagen vehicle range.

"Thanks to new rubber mixtures, wear on winter tires is no higher than it is with summer tires, and there are no differences in driving comfort either thanks to modern blade technology. To ensure that the attractive appearance of your car is maintained when fitted with winter tires too, the engineers at Volkswagen have developed special light alloy wheel rims whose high-quality surface sealant protects against corrosion caused by slush and road salt," Volkswagen said in a release.

For the Polo model, Volkswagen is offering the brilliant silver Sima tires, fitted with "Semperit Speed Grip” rubbers. The Sima come in a five spoke design and will be available in size 14 to 17 inches and is available for other Volkswagen models as well. For the Tiguan, the shining milled surface Davenport five spoke wheels, sized in 18 inch, come shoed in Pirelli W210 Sottozero tires.

"Everyone knows that sandals are anything but the optimal shoes in winter. However, many drivers have difficulties when making the safe switch from summer tires to winter tires. But: In comparison to summer tires, only winter tires possess a softer tread surface mixture which ensures a better wheel grip at temperatures below seven degrees Celsius," VW added.

Additional details on the available tires can be found by following this link or by taking a look at the PDF attached below. Prices for the new tires range in between 119 and 429 euros.
