Vilner Works its Magic on the Alfa Romeo Brera

Remember the Alfa Romeo Brera and its sister, the drop-top Spider? Those two encompassed everything that gearheads love about Italian design flair, but two major flaws chipped the appeal of the Brera and Spider. First of all, the six-speed Selespeed semi-automatic gearbox, which was borderline awful, together with the woeful 3.2-liter JTS V6 built by Holden as a derivate of a GM-designed engine.

Although the six-speed stick shift gearbox and the less punchy four-cylinder petrol were better as an overall package than the previously mentioned, the Brera wasn't a big seller for the Italian marque and that's a bit of a shame in our book. Out of the 21,786 Brera coupes built from 2005 to 2010, one car has been sprinkled with magical tuning dust from a Bulgarian outfit called Vilner.

Of course, the iconic Giorgetto Giugiaro might not like somebody fiddling with his design, but still, look at the thing! Sporting much prettier clothes than the original, Vilner's Brera is that more Milanese in appearance. That matte titanium paint finish and the black wheels make an awesome visual combo.

Vilner didn't feddle with the oily bits, so under the new skin you'll get the same 3.2 V6, all-wheel drive system with Torsen differential, the lot. The cabin of the Brera Italia Independent by Vilner has unfortunately received tacky snakeskin detailing and dragon embroidery on the seats and headliner, but the rest of the package is just what the doctor ordered. Seats dressed in a lot of Nappa leather and Alcantara, carbon fiber here and there and contrasting red stitching round off the interior makeover.
