Vettel Leads Red Bull's 1-2 in the British Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel scored his second win of the season after beating championship leader and local favorite Jenson Button right in his back yard, at Silverstone. The Red Bull driver led the race from start to finish, disclosing an incredible drive during this Sunday's British Grand Prix.

Australian driver and Red Bull teammate Mark Webber crossed the finish line in 2nd place, giving his team a well-deserved 1-2 at the British track. It was the Milton Keynes based team's second 1-2 this season, following a massive restructuring of the RB5 ahead of this weekend's race.

Vettel started the race from pole position and had no trouble keeping that position after the first corner, same as Rubens Barrichello and Webber. Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen recuperated some massive 4 spots at the start, as he managed to get into 5th place, while Button was blocked by Trulli and lost no less than 3 positions (to 9th place).

Apart from the Brawn GP favorite passing Felipe Massa for 8th place, nothing interesting really happened until the first round of pit stops. The leading 11 drivers were separated from the rest of the pack thanks to the buffer zone created by the two BMW drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica, who - despite lacking pace for the entire duration of the race - defended well against Renault's Fernando Alonso and McLaren's Lewis Hamilton to keep them away from the rest of the field.

Webber managed to get in front of Barrichello after the first pit stop, while Vettel put some 20 seconds between him and his teammate with more than half of race to go. Button struggled all day in the last point-scoring positions due to steering problems with his BGP 001, and had to wait until the very last pit stop to secure a disappointing 6th place (despite a last-minute surge).

Felipe Massa benefited from great pit strategy to get into 5th place after the first pit stop, right behind Nico Rosberg. The Brazilian driver put the hammer on during his second stint and got closer and closer to the Williams driver, while eventually passing the German at the second (and last) pit stops.

Toyota's Jarno Trulli failed to be in contention for a podium finish all day, but could have done better than his 7th place at the chequered flag. However, a poor pit time after the second stint dropped him to 7th place, before Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

Thanks to the 10 points at Silverstone, Vettel cemented his 3rd place overall, while recuperating 7 points to Button in the drivers' standings. Red Bull is now only 30.5 points behind Brawn GP in the constructors' classification, and the second part of the season seems more interesting already.
