Valentino Rossi Gets Double Ice-Shower for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Yesterday we showed you Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez taking an ice-cold shower as part of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge fund raising campaign which seems to become quite a frenzy during the last days. After being challenged by his DJ friend Nicky Romero, Lorenzo, who appears to have been the first MotoGP rider in this silly madness, nominated the above three of his rivals as the next “victims”.

After Dani Pedrosa and Marquez were quick to douse themselves in icy water for the ALS cause, even though the former jumped into a not-that-icy pool after the shower, it’s the 9-time world champion who gets a taste of the ice bucket. Besides his team mate Lorenzo, Rossi was also “invited” by popular Italian singer Laura Pausini, as himself declares.

The Doctor passed the “ice legacy” to MX star Toni Cairoli, former football goal-scorer legend Marco Materazzi, DJ Ralf and singer Cesare Cremonini. Not sure whether it was the number of nominees that attracted a second ice-cold shower from Rossi’s friends right after he poured the bucket on himself, but the second wave was truly powerful.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was popularized by philanthropist Corey Griffin, in an effort to raise funds after his friend Pete Frates was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. The ice bucket challenge became an instant hit, and Corey was able to raise more than $100,000 (€75,400) hours before he drowned in a diving accident.

Celebrities around the world took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and so far the campaign appears to have brought more than $22 mil (€16.6 mil) in donations.
