V8 Hell Unleashed: 9.3-liter Big-Block Churns 2,500 HP [Video]
Today we are showing you a devilish 572 cubic inch (9.3-liter) big-block from Chevy that’s powerful enough to rip a dyno apart. Fortunately, it’s not the case, but the 2,500+ HP this mill is pumping nearly put an end to Nelson Racing Engine’s testing rig.
So what’s this engine all about? According to DragZine, it’s built around a Dart tall-deck block, Callies Magnum crankshaft, Oliver billet rods and custom-made JE pistons. NRE also used Smith Bros. pushrods, T&D shaft-mounted rocker arms, and Aviad dry-sump system and Brodix 24-degree CNC heads.
According to NRE boss Tom Nelson, the mill can do well beyond its current 2,500 HP: “Personally, I think it could have made 2,800 horsepower, but we called it 2,500 just because everyone will cry about it.”
