Unimog U 400, Biggest LEGO Technical Model in History

No less than 2,048 elements make up what is as of today the biggest LEGO Technical model ever created. Built at the request of German automaker Daimler, the model replicates one of the manufacturer's oldest brands, the not-so-famous but at times extremely exciting Unimog.

The Unomig model chosen for the creation of the technical model is a U 400, one of the most versatile of the entire range (it is used for anything from pushing snow to constructing new roads). The LEGO model, says the toy maker, is an exact adaptation of the original, down to the smallest details, but what's even more important for the boys in all the grown men is that it reproduces all the Unimog real functions in LEGO format.

The toy is part of the special moments prepared by Daimler as it celebrates the 60th anniversary of its workhorse. The term Unimog, which stands for Universal-Motor-Gerat (loosely translated, a universal motorized machine), has stood for a wide range of utility vehicles ever since 1953, when the second version of the original agricultural vehicle was created (Daimler kicked off production of the original model at its own plant in Gaggenau in 1951, at this is what the car maker is celebrating this year).

The Unimogs are currently used for a huge variety of tasks, most of which take place on such a harsh terrain that would kill any other vehicle. It also features attachment points for a large variety of implements, giving it almost limitless applicability. According to Daimler, 380,000 units of the nameplate have been produced in the 60 years that have passed.
