The collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren led to the legendary SLR McLaren, among other things. The supercar first came to market in 2003, and low-mileage examples have become extremely expensive.
Over the years, the Mercedes-Benz model that was manufactured by McLaren got special editions and limited versions. In 2006, three years after the Mercedes-Benz SLR was launched, the car received a limited edition named SLR 722, which was only offered in 150 examples.
The idea of that version was to mark the anniversary of the 1955 Mille Miglia victory by Sir Stirling Moss. The British driver and Denis Jenkinson, his co-driver, had ran a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR to victory in 1955, and that model gave the name of the car produced by McLaren for Mercedes-Benz. Just one year later, a roadster version was launched.
The year 2009 marked the debut of another limited edition SLR- the 722 S, which was a roadster based on the SLR 722. Fast-forward to December 2010, and McLaren offered an MSO version of the Mercedes-Benz SLR. It was announced one year after the SLR was discontinued.
Only customers that had an SLR could apply, because it involved taking the vehicle to McLaren’s Special Operations division and upgrading it on all levels.
Only 25 examples of the MSO-modified Mercedes-Benz SLR were made, and each of them received a revised body, new interior elements, a new sports exhaust system, an upgraded suspension, and a modified steering. The exterior featured a new set of bumpers, revised front grille, different side skirts, a redesigned rear diffuser in the bumper, and a set of new rims.
McLaren only wanted to make 3,500 units of the Mercedes-Benz SLR, but sales were slower than expected, so the announced quota of 500 cars per year was never attained.
The 722 version of the Mercedes-Benz SLR was limited to 150 examples, and MSO modified only 25 cars, both regular SLR and SLR 722. This makes the unit in the photo gallery an extremely rare vehicle.
It is located in Germany, and its seller wants €9,999,999 for an example that only drove 15,800 kilometers. It might be a sweet deal if you are a collector that is into this kind of thing. Alternatively, you can easily buy a Chiron, a Huayra, a Bentayga, and have money to spare for other cars.
