UK Rider Found Guilty of Reckless Driving after Uploading Close Call Footage Online

Earlier this spring we brought you a rather disturbing video showing a fast ride in the UK countryside which ended with the camera motorcycle running off the road and down an embankment, after being literally inches away form a head-on impact with an incoming Honda car. The video was uploaded on Youtube, and it has drawn attention. Too bad that the Macclesfield Police was also interested in it…

"Cat and Fiddle" road
The hero in this video is Jack Sanderson,a 22-year-old rider from Mobberley, Chesire, who was speeding along the A537 11.4-mile (18km) road between Macclesfield and Buxton. The road is also called “Cat and Fiddle” and it looks really appealing, more like the Snaefell Mountain lap around the Isle of Man, with many riders feeling the urge to twist the throttle harder and pit their skills against the tarmac. "The Cat and Fiddle does have a bit of a challenge mentality and a minority do try to ride it as fast as they can," Lee Murphy, from Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership says.

Now, the Macclesfield Magistrate’s Court has found Sanderson guilty of reckless driving and will pass sentence next week. However, visordown reports that the landowner whose fence Sanderson took down as he went off the road is already seeking for £1,000 (€ or $) in damage compensation for the fence.

Sanderson told the court that he was in control of the motorcycle. “I was in full control until I hit the fence. I drove into the fence to avoid a collision” was his statement, but with such video evidence, we can almost picture the smile on the magistrates’ faces.

The young rider wasn’t traveling exceptionally fast before the crash, but it looks like his skills definitely need solid improvement, as the footage really shows nothing even closely related to being in full control, especially when approaching the last bend. As for uploading evidence of a law-breaking act, have fun reading this autoevolution editorial on public display of crimes.
