Twin Low Riders From Mother Russia

Built from 1970 through 1988 in Togliatti, the Fiat 124-based Lada 1200 was a popular car in the Eastern Bloc, through it wasn’t regarded as a very reliable car. Powered by 1.2 and 1.3-liter engines, it was one of the cheapest cars on the market, thus selling in millions in Eastern European countries.
Despite its poor performance and boxy looks, the Lada 1200 was also used as a rally car, and some owners even started testing their tuning skills on it. The models pictured above are far from being anything special design-wise, but you have to admit that any Soviet-built vehicle that was slammed and lowered on white-walled tires is a rare sight.

Not exactly attractive, since these type of rollers are more suited to Western European and American stylish cars that roamed the street before the 1970s, but eyebrow-rising enough to make it into our news section. You know what’s even weirder? There’s no crash or road rage in this Russia-related report. Please excuse us for that!
