Tuned Ferrari 488 GTB Aims for More Power than F12, Does Crazy Donuts

As soon as the first rumors of Maranello working on a twin-turbo replacement for the 458 Italia surfaced, we knew the tuning world would spare nothing in its quest to take full advantage of Ferrari returning to forced induction.

Now that more and more 488 GTBs have reached their owners, aftermarket developers are working overtime to dip into the potential of the TT Prancing Horse. Things have already started to heat up, with one of the first examples of this coming from the video below.

The footage shows us a Ferrari 488 GTB review done in the UAE, where German tuner PP-Performance's dealer is currently playing with the Ferrari in question.

For now, an ECU remap has allowed the power to jump from the factory 670 hp to 720 hp. And the company obviously has bigger plans, which should mean the F12's 740 hp output will be exceeded soon. While this may be the kind of increase that won't surprise anybody, that's the whole idea - simply playing with the ECU of your 488 will make it faster than an F12berlinetta.

Even in stock trim, the 488 manages to beat the V12 grand tourer in many acceleration tests, so as long as the driver of the mid-engined machine understands a thing or two about traction, the tuned supercar has all the chances of winning such races.

However, before you jump to conclusions, there are two things we need to mention. First of all, the character of the naturally aspirated V12 motivating the F12berlinetta means its drivers get to enjoy a different, more refined type of sensation, a feat that is easily confirmed when comparing the soundtracks of the two Fezzas.

Then there's the traction matter - given the fact that Ferrari engineers had to mix the playful handling nature of any Maranello product with the hefty low-end torque of the twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8, the 488 has to fight for its grip when setting off. And the tuning doesn't exactly help with that.
