Tucson to Blink the ECOtality Way

The EV Project, US' largest and most comprehensive undertaking to get the EV infrastructure in place prior to the mass introduction of the actual vehicles is going as planned, with ECOtality, the leader of the project, announcing today the installation plan for the city of Tucson, Arizona.

Just as we've seen several times in the past, the charging solutions provider will be installing Blink Level 2 residential charging stations at homes throughout the city. For the participants in the EV Project, the chargers will come free of charge.

“Tucson is an important city in one of our key project markets, we are thrilled that residential Blink chargers are officially being installed in garages throughout the city," said Jonathan Read, ECOtality CEO.

"This further signifies ECOtality's commitment towards building a comprehensive infrastructure for EVs across the country."

The EV Project is supported through a grant awarded by the US Department of Energy. ECOtality has been commissioned to deploy 15,000 residential and commercial chargers in 18 cities in six states.

The car maker that will benefit the most from the chargers that are currently installed is Nissan, who selected the American company as the preferred supplier of charging solutions for the electric Nissan Leaf.

The presentation of the Blink station in Tucson was done with the help of a Leaf model, which was showcased at El Presidio Park together with the charging station which is meant to charge it.

"Working with our Clean Cities Coalition Members and ECOtality, PAG's Clean Cities Program is excited to begin the residential installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, here in Tucson, to help secure America's energy independence for our future,"
added Colleen Crowninshield, manager of the Clean Cities Coalition at Pima Association of Governments (PAG).
