Triumph Motorcycles America have issued a rear suspension recall involving the Sprint ST 1050, manufactured between 2005 - 2009, due to some problems with corrosion of the rear drag link assembly, which might lead to a crash.

According to the safety recall on the official website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Triumph reveals the recall refers to 2849 units that could endanger the riders’ lives.

“Triumph is recalling certain model year 2005 through 2009 Sprint ST 1050 motorcycles manufactured from November 4, 2004 through September 2009. The rear suspension drag link assembly in these motorcycles can fracture due to corrosion,” the notification posted on the NHTSA website stated.

The direct consequence of such a problem is that the rear suspension could fail, which might make the rear tire mudguard to prevent the rear tire to roll properly and therefore increase the risk of crashing.

“In the event of a fracture, part of the suspension will drop causing the rear tire mudguard to contact the rear tire, which could cause a crash,”
the report stated.

The manufacturer, however, did not provide an owner notification schedule yet, but the recall is expected to begin sometime this month. However, owners of the models in question may also contact Triumph at 1-678-539-8777. Just as expected, all operations will be conducted free of charge through Triumph's authorized US dealership network.

“Triumph will notify owners and repair the motorcycles free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during October 2009,”
the recall concluded.
