Toyota to Modify Stop Start Button
In an attempt to reinforce the fix it has for the renegade accelerator problems, or just because they haven't really found the real reason behind the sudden acceleration, Toyota is now considering making it easier for drivers to shut down the engine altogether.
According to just-auto.com, citing US media reports, Toyota intends to add a function to the 'stop start' button in the Lexus vehicles which would allow the driver to shut down the engine by tapping the button three times in succession.
In the current configuration, the button needs to be depressed for three seconds continuously for the engine to shut off. According to Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons, speaking for the Wall Street Journal, the modification to the start stop button is only under study at this point.
Yet, such a modification will only act as an extra precautionary measure and will be much like the new over ride system Toyota is introducing into all of its products by the end of the year.
The brake over ride will allow the brake to take precedence, should both the accelerator and the brake would be pressed at the same time.
