Toyota has recently showcased the Scion FR-S convertible concept at a dealer meeting in Atlanta, hinting that a production version of the much rumored cabriolet could be marketed in the near future.
“They don’t show product they don’t plan on building,” a California Toyota dealer told Automotive News, adding that the convertible Scion FR-S will likely be sold in other markets with Toyota badging (GT 86) as well.
The Japanese automaker also showed a drawing of a subcompact crossover. The future production vehicle is said to be slotted under the Toyota RAV4 and compete agains Honda’s upcoming Fit-based crossover. The manufacturer’s senior vice president Bob Carter declined to comment on the concept, but said the FR-S convertible “is under study but has not been green-lighted.”
In other related news, US Toyota dealers have been notified that they can to drop the declining Scion franchise without facing penalties.
