Toyota Teases Frankfurt-bound Hybrid-R Concept
Earlier today, the Japanese automaker has published a teaser photo of what appears to be a new concept car and released the first details of their new race-derived powertrain. Interestingly enough, they say that the Hybrid-R is based on a current Toyota production model, which kind of rules out a Supra successor concept.
“Hybrid-R is based on a current Toyota production model and is equipped with a powertrain that features similar technology to that used by Toyota Racing’s TS030 Hybrid race car in the FIA World Endurance Championship. It combines a high-power internal combustion engine with electric motors to achieve a maximum power output of more than 400bhp (298kW). A dual mode control allows the car’s performance to be tailored to suit either road or racetrack,” Toyota revealed.
From what we can gather, Toyota is either working on a GT 86-based hybrid sportscar or will showcase its new high-performance road technology on a 2014 Lexus IS-sourced platform. Whatever the case, we're dying to find out more!
