Toyota Sold Its First Anime Wrapped GT 86 in Japan

Oh, and the style even comes with a name - itasha. It stems up from the Japanese word ‘itai’ which means ‘ouch’ while ‘sha’ means ‘automobile’. So basically they’re ouch-cars. Usually, there’s a lot of money involved in such a project as owning a car in an urban Japanese area costs a lot and the giant graphics don’t come for pennies, especially because they are custom made.

However, itasha seems pretty popular among geeks there and Toyota decided to try out the niche. Last year Toyota said it will be making an official unique GT 86 itasha, wearing a theme inspired by the Love Live! TV series there that focuses on a group of teen idols having all sorts of adventures in highschool, if we remember correctly.

RocketNews24 reports that the itasha GT 86 was finished in November 2013 and was showcased in a big showroom in Odaiba, Tokyo. Fans went crazy over it and there were a lot of candidates bulking to buy it. After a careful selection, the dealership sold the one-off car to Donguri Papa, who payed ¥1,500,000 for it, which is around $14,500.
