The previous generation Toyota Auris was a solid and reliable car. That’s pretty much what we have to say about it, as it really had no other redeeming features - it looked bland, it drove blandly and its interior, while practical and highly ergonomical, it was also very grey and bland.
Now, with the all-new Auris (which we had already seen), Toyota aims to claw back some market share, in a sector where style has become one of the main selling points, with rivals like the Renault Megane, Citroen C4, Opel Astra and even the new Hyundai i30 currently being very close to the top of the class.

They are putting high hopes on this new car, which is also stiffer and lighter than the outgoing model, so driving dynamics should be improved. Engines-wise, buyers will have a wide range of petrol, diesel and hybrid powerplants to choose from, with the upcoming BMW-sourced diesel engines expected to be the pick of the range.

We admit to liking this new offering from Toyota, but we can’t help but notice how it still tries to match its rivals in terms of styling prowess, instead of attempting to beat them - the designers aimed to make it better-looking, but conformed to the norm and got something which we say is only 75% there in terms of styling.
