Toyota Prius Sales Reach New Record in US
No less than 28,711 gas-electric Prius Hybrids were delivered last month, and a fair chunk of those were orders for the Prius C subcompact. Thanks to this and the high gas prices, 54 percent more US customers wanted on of these Japanese fuel-savers.
First-quarter Prius sales were 60,859, and the company thus finds itself on target to meet the new annual target of 220,000 units. Toyota clearly wants to focus on hybrids instead of the Camry in the US, and they already basically have half the market.
“Fuel economy remains a top purchase consideration among consumers, and we are pleased with the continued response to Toyota’s lineup,” Bob Carter, group vice president told Bloomberg yesterday.
