Toyota Named Most Valuable Automotive Brand

Every year or so, brands from all across the world duke it out in more or less miscellaneous tops. Out of all tops out there, the Interbrand survey for global brand value is one of the most respected in the industry. For the calendar year 2016, Japanese carmaker Toyota leads the said survey in terms of automotive brands.

Toyota, a manufacturer that was born in 1937 and probably the biggest advocate for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, ranks 5th overall in the 2016 Interbrand Best Global Brands Report, which is ahead of each and every other car company that made the list. On second place, Mercedes-Benz ranks 9th.

Then there’s BMW (11), Honda (21), Ford (33), Hyundai (35), Audi (38), Volkswagen (40), Nissan (43), Porsche (50), Kia (69), Land Rover (78), MINI (88), and Tesla (100). Regarding the latter, Elon Musk’s Palo Alto-based electric vehicle manufacturer made the list for the first time ever.

Regarding brand value, Interbrand believes that Toyota is worth roughly $53 million. By comparison, Tesla was valued at $4 million. iPhone and other whatnots producer Apple, however, boasts a brand value of $178 million. From Apple (1) to Toyota (5), the list consists of Google, Coca-Cola, and Microsoft. When it comes down to Interbrand’s Top Growing Brands for 2016, those are Facebook (48 %), Amazon (33 %), LEGO (25 %), Nissan (22 %), and Adobe (21 %). Took together, the top 100 brand that made Interbrand's’ list have a combined value of $1,796,384 million, which is a helluva lot of money.

What’s seriously impressive about this ranking, however, is the following detail: 29 positions are taken by brand from the automotive and technology sectors. “It’s clear the best global brands are not just weathering change, but driving it,” explains Jez Frampton, Interbrand’s Global Chief Executive Officer. “They understand their Anatomy of Growth is complex, unique and personal; they look inward and outward, expand into new markets, and create better experiences to grow their brands and businesses,” he concluded.

It should be noted that this ranking isn’t about which is the coolest brand out there. If coolness were the sole criterion, then names such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and Bugatti would’ve also made the list.
