Toyota Modifies Power Button for Safety Reasons
Toyota is well-aware of this fact, and they are altering the way in which the power buttons in their cars work, so that the engine can be stopped or restarted much quicker, in the event of unintended acceleration, or critical situations. The Japanese giant did not make a big fuss out of implementing the tech, and it has already done so, starting last year.
They say that all Toyota and Lexus models made after August 2010 have the new buttons. At first, you may not notice the difference, as the chances aren`t visible under normal operating conditions. You need to press the button three times in rapid succession, to make the engine stop under any circumstances.
Also, it now takes only two seconds of keeping the button pressed to get it to start, and they can`t get it any lower, because it may cause problems with unintended pushes of the button, which may stop the car in dangerous situations, thus eliminating the first problem by creating another one.
