The Toyota GT 86 celebrates its second anniversary this month, meaning that it should get an update soon. In Japan, Toyota engineers are not sleeping, because the model there will soon get some minor but welcomed changes.
Toyota Motor Corporation just announced a partial GT 86 improvement for this year which will be released on June 2nd. Don’t worry, power output is still the same, but the affordable sportscar now comes with some extra amenities regarding both styling and performance.

Mechanically, the GT 86 has received a stiffer structure thanks to new, bigger bolts that hold the suspension together and attached to the main frame. New Sachs shock absorbers also help improving both ride comfort and handling stability along with the new bots.

Outside, the car will come with a new shark fin radio antenna, redesigned BBS forged aluminum 18-inch multispoke rims and two new body colors Crystal White Pearl (replaces Satin White Pearl) and Ice Silver Metallic (replaces Sterling Silver Metallic).

Inside, the new-age hachi-roku only gets some new carbon fiber-imitating plastic on the dashboard and apparently new GPS hardware. Not much, but considering the car’s status, it doesn’t need more gear to keep it affordable.

In Japan, the Toyota GT 86 is offered in four grades, with price ranging from ¥2,056,909 to ¥3,147,709 ($20,192 to $30,901). The basic RC model (which is also offered in New Zealand) comes only with a 6-speed manual transmission, steel wheels and unpainted bumpers as well as no infotainment system.

If the improved GT 86 gets launched in June on the Japanese market, we believe it will reach worldwide dealerships late this fall, so stay tuned for updates.
