The Toyota GT 86, along with the Subaru BRZ sister car was recently praised by the judges of the 2012 Vehicle Dynamics International Awards, with the vehicle being named the sports coupe of the year, while its chief engineer Tetsuya Tada received the title of Dynamicist of the Year, alongside Toshio Masuda, his Subaru counterpart on the development of the Toyobaru.
The panel of judges is comprised of specialist engineers, technologists and journalists, who have also named the vehicle the car of the year, being extremely fond of the bouquet of assets offered by the vehicle.
The vehicle has been appreciated for being a driver’s car, using a classic front-engine/rear-wheel drive configuration, as well as a compact, lightweight 2.0-liter boxer petrol powerplant, which is also rev-happy. Thus, the vehicle focuses on handling rather than straight line performance.
