Toyota FT-86 Coming as a Scion for $25,000
text size: A- A+
According to the Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) and Toyobaru.net, Toyota announced its dealers that the vehicle will come to the U.S. as part of the Scion brand. We've reported the fact that the U.S. buyers would get the FT-86 as a Scion in the past, but now there’s a new character in the story.
This character that we speak of is called price and, unfortunately, it seems to be playing on the dark side. In other words, the Scion FT-86 (the vehicle is actually expected to use the FR-S name) will reportedly come with a sticker price of $25,000. This is really bad news, as one of the main reasons for the entire project’s huge pre-release popularity was its price, which was expected to only exceed the $20,000 mark by a little distance.
However, there’s also a good part of the story. It seems that the Scion FR-S won’t use a 2.0 liter boxer engine, but come with a beefier 2.5 liter boxer powerplant.
The adoption of the Scion badge also means that the vehicle will come with certain design changes. It's probable that the Scion incarnation of the car will come with more square design cues, a decision which might not necessarily enhance the vehicle's appearance.
The Scion FR-S is expected to make its debut at the New York Auto Show, in April next year.
