First of all, we need to mention that remaining footage of Top Gear was compressed into “an extended episode to wrap up Series 22.” According to this detail, courtesy of topgear.com/uk, we should be expecting more than an hour of final cut material to be aired “within weeks.” Still better than nothing, right?

As you already know from the official trailer for the last Top Gear episode, we’re in for quite a wild ride. Captain Power, Slow and the Hamster acquire an MGB GT, Peugeot 304 Cabriolet and Fiat 124 Spyder. With their old school rag tops, the trio set off an adventure “incorporating brown beer, breakdowns (inevitably) and attending a car show where everything goes wrong.”

The second segment of the final Top Gear episode will see the likely lads “attempt to become ‘lifestyle leisure enthusiasts' with the help of some very ratty old 4x4s.” Jeremy, Richard and James were given £250 to buy their wheels: a Vauxhall Frontera, Jeep Cherokee and Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin.

Other than the cheap SUVs and a series of challenges (including lots of muddy offroading and a wee bit of caravanning), the boys will battle the Stig’s Leisure Activity Cousin in a race.

However, there’s a problem. Watch the extended trailer below, then flick through the photo gallery. What’s with the Nissan Skyline R33 from Skid Risk Drift Team? To boot, we can see a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona and an Aston Martin DB5 in the Top Gear studio, with a few modern crossover SUVs in the background.

Whatever surprises the last episode holds, it will be a tough act to follow by the new-format Top Gear.

UPDATE: it's official. The last Top Gear episode with Jeremy Clarkon as a presenter will air on June 28th.
