Navigation solution provider TomTom presented yesterday a device which it calls "the first in a whole new generation of navigation devices." Dubbed GO LIVE 1000, the gadget is the first in TomTom's offering to be design with one goal in mind: connectivity.

The GO LIVE 1000 is based on an ARM 11 500 Mhz processor and uses optimized software, which makes it capable of integrating third party applications.

The project has been co-developed with the help of Vodafone and includes services like TomTom HD Traffic, mobile speed cameras and local search. The new user interface and application logic, much improved, is at the will of the owner via a touch screen.

"Our customers are relying increasingly on their navigation devices and it is no longer about the destination alone, but also very much about the journey itself," said Corinne Vigreux, managing director TomTom.

"The GO LIVE 1000 has been designed to make the journey a relaxed, predictable, safe and enjoyable experience. Thanks to our technologies we know the road ahead and what is happening on the journey. The GO LIVE 1000 will get our customers to their destination easier, safer and faster than ever before."

The system uses richer, more detailed maps, with two million kilometers more roads and addressable locations across 45 European countries.

Vodafone and TomTom will offer real-time connectivity across 33 European countries, with the local search available in 16 countries. GO LIVE 1000 will be launched this summer, for yet unannounced prices.
