The Speed Camera App released today by sat-nav maker TomTom will give drivers access to fixed and mobile speed camera locations. Behind it stands Europe’s largest community with over 1.6 million drivers from 15 countries.

The app is claimed to improve safety by keeping the user constantly informed about speed limits and camera locations. In our view, it’s more of a money saver rather than a real safety-booster.

“Our Speed Camera service can be of real benefit, helping people to stay focused as they know where the next camera will be,” says Gerry Hinds, Vice President Mobile at TomTom.  “We all know that confident driving is safer driving.  And that’s why we’re so pleased that we can now offer this accessible service to a much larger segment of the driving community.”

This Speed Camera App includes and incorporates real-time data supplied by other users in an attempt to be as up-to-date as possible in its information. At launch, it will cost £1.49(€1.83) per month or £16.99 (€20.01) for 12 months with a final price of £3.99 (€4.91) for one month, or £26.99 (€33.22) per year.
