The Nissan 240SX has always been a close friend of the engine swap community, but the car we are willing to talk about today took this game to really, really odd level. Under the hood, or, better said, under and instead of the hood, this 240SX packs a Cummins turbodiesel engine.
We are talking about a 3.9-liter Cummins 4BT, a four-cylinder unit that was taken out of a... are you ready for it? bread van. This automotive Frankenstein is the creation of a guy named Glenn Irizarry - while he doesn’t explain why he went down this strange pathway, most such cases see enthusiasts on a budget go for whatever they can grab.
Still, if this had been a press release, we would have heard Glenn bragging about the 40 mpg (5.9 liters per 100 km) the contraption achieves while being driven on urban roads. As for the performance, there are no figures available, but, as you can see below, the black smoke-accompanied burnouts are on the house. At least it’s not too often you get to see a car whose two types of smoke fight for attention.
This is a 240SX convertible, so you’ll always be able to hear the diesel going about its business. Oh wait, that’s not necessarily cool - probably this is what many eBay users must have thought - the Nissan was listed at least once since it was put together.
Oh well, at least the DIY approach of the project is rather amusing. To us, this looks like a creation from the Wacky Races cartoon series - an you imagine driving around with diesel smoke instead of windscreen washing fluid?
Yes, we know, this is not exactly healthy, but the people the build and drive these cars aren’t exactly concerned about the health and safety risks.
