This Map Shows Where You Can or Cannot Directly Buy a Tesla EV

Tesla welcomed the news that it can now legally sell cars directly to customers in New Jersey, after a ban imposed last year was lifted by governor Chris Christie, who signed a bill into a law saying that allows the company to drop a third-party dealership when selling its EVs.

However, this is just a battle won by Elon Musk and Tesla Motors, since there are other states which are determined to use the law as a way of making it illegal for car companies - Tesla included - to sell cars to retail buyers.

In other words, all cars must be purchased through a third-party dealership and we all know that having a middleman is just a waste of time, energy and in the end, money. Tesla is also aware of this and lucky for them, some states allow the company to sell its electric cars online and open as many Tesla Store showrooms as they please.

The map we were telling you about was created by Mojo Motors and is designed to give information on where you can buy, supercharge or service a Tesla these days. In addition, these guys colored in red the states where Tesla’s direct sales are banned, although service centers, superchargers, stores and galleries can be opened but without selling or delivering.

According to the map, there are currently 26 states than ban direct sales and 22 states that allow Tesla Motors to do their thing and sell directly to customers. Now we’re beginning to get a glimpse at the long road ahead of Tesla Motors. They might have come a long way, but there’s still plenty to go.
