Since winter holidays are all about being free, happy and creative Ford Motor Company has decided to take a shot with their designers to see what’s the best idea they come with when they’re left completely free. The subject, an icon of winter - the snowman.
Thought as a team-building exercise, nine U.S. design teams kicked off the holiday season with a snowman-design challenge. They were given three pieces of white Styrofoam and instructed to work together, document the process and, of course, have fun. Three of the Ford snowmen will be delivered this month to two Michigan orphanages and a senior citizens home, while the remaining six will be housed at Ford design studios.

Perfectly sculpted and painted, with some of the creations lit from within and wrapped in a suede-like fabric, each snowman is thoughtfully designed to capture the strengths of its team.

Ford’s color and materials studio created a snowman that features paint domes as vest, twigs textured with sparkling crystals for arms and a basket-wave top gat, while the company’s vehicle animations team designed a punker snowman.

The auto maker’s interior designers team created a sled-bound trio of snowmen, complete with tablet guiding the way. Snowmen with detailed stitching, polished surfaces and refined curves were the brainchild of several other teams charged with developing vehicle prototypes.

Ford claims each one of these nine snowmen reflects the spirit of the holiday season, even though some look quite heavy-metal if not even dark.
