When BMW had introduced the E86 Z4 Coupe, the engineers behind the German sports car haven’t thought about shoehorning a thumping great V10 under the Z4's long hood.
Be that as it may, Manhart fitted a 5.0-liter V10 from the E60 M5 in the engine bay where you’d usually find a 3.2-liter inline-6. But then again, a gentleman pushed the envelope even further with an 8.3-liter behemoth. The V10 that motivates the BMW Z4 in the adjacent pics is none other than the Viper’s engine. But in Europe, it’s hard to source the engine from a Viper.
Instead of that, the owner of this black-painted BMW Z4 got himself the 8.3-liter tower-of-power from a Dodge Ram SRT-10 sports truck, which is exactly the same thing. Currently listed on eBay Deutschland for €49,500 ($55,650 at current exchange rates), this Z4 is a street legal machine that also happens to be equipped with two racing seats, 6-point seat racing harnesses, a full roll cage, a little more heat insulation than in a regular Z4, and that’s about it.
Of course, this Z4 is also gifted with plenty of tailor-made bits and bobs. Just to name a few of them, the highlights are the stainless steel manifolds and valve exhaust system, aluminum radiator, aluminum oil pan, aluminum propeller shaft, super-tough drive shafts, and windshield wiper linkage.
On the go-faster front, it so happens that the brakes are Brembo 6-piston units from an Audi R8 and the transmission is a tried-and-true Tremec T-56. With a weight distribution of 51 percent front and 49 percent rear, this bad boy here is one hell of a ride. With 550 PS (542 hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) on tap, this might be a handful to drive on public roads or in bad weather.
But for the insanity you're getting for a not too large sum of money, the Viper V10-swapped BMW Z4 is one hell of a one way ticket to hell.
