This 2017 Porsche 911 R Is Not So Subtle

For over half a century now, the Porsche 911 has been playing the understatement card. An untrained eye would find it almost impossible to believe that Froggy here could keep up with machines wearing Ferrari or Lamborghini badges.
There are always exceptions, such as the GT3 RS, whose motorsport genes allow a five-year-old to get the speeding message. And, at the opposite end of the current Neunelfer line-up subtlety scale, we find the 911 R.

The medium witdth 911 body, devoided of any serious wing (the retractable spoiler of the Carrera doesn't count here) or outrageous vents has nothing to do with the delightful three-pedal violence of the range's most expensive coupe.

Well, none of that applies to the 2017 Porsche 911 R we have here. No, the rear-engined coupe hasn't been taken down the aftermarket route. Far from it - we'll tip our lens to ItsWhiteNoise for the immersive image we have here.

Instead, we're dealing with a color mix that almost reminds us of a Harlequin Golf. OK, we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves here, but still, the color mix seen on this Zuffenhausen machine is incredible.

Heck, it's enough to check out the melange between the Yellow PCCB (Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes) calipers and the Red wheels to tell how well the in-your-face badge suits the thing.

Then there's the body, which stars by playing the discrete card, using matte stripes on a Glossy Black finish. However, the Red decals on the sides of the car are anything but shy, albeit matching the wheels.

The whole scheme obviously means this R ends up acting like a massive splitter. No, not an aerodynamic element, but a huge opinion splitter. Which is something that can't possibly bother the driver of such a car.

P.S.: If you happen to be looking for what could be labeled as the opposite of the 911 R we have here, this might be the answer.
