With the new MINI 5-door hardtop set to arrive in dealerships later on this year, the world is starting to wonder what the MINI name stands for these days.
Back when the original was still being manufactured, the name of the brand was really in tune with the size of the car. It was small, compact, easy to run an maintain and extremely practical for its size.

Time passed though and so did the oil crisis that shaped its success. Nowadays, the British brand is owned by BMW that turned its ‘life’ around, giving it a new look, new customers and a new position on the market, looking to fight in the premium segment.

That same struggle forced the Germans to introduce this new version that for many seems like a step too far. After the ‘normal’ 3-door Hardtop grew by quite a bit in its latest version, the new car has grown even bigger now and is getting to the point where it’s just too much.

Even so, the demand was quite high even before the car was released. A lot of people are actually claiming that they were waiting for the added practicality of those two extra doors at the back.

Those extra bits also translate into a heavier car that has less attractive performance but only by 0.1 or 0.2 seconds at most. We also get to see the new Cooper SD model fitted with a 2-liter 170 HP powerplant. There are a number of other new key things you should know about the car as well, but we’ll let the video below explain them with added care to details.
