Ben Collins, Top Gear’s former Stig, is now moving on with his career. And what better show to star in, if not Top Gear’s number one rival, Fifth Gear.
Yes, that is true! The Stig has joined Chanel 5’s Fifth Gear crew, as The Guardian reports. The new character will make his debut on the show next Friday night, when the new series is scheduled to begin. Collins will be the third ex-Top Gear employee in the Fifth Gear team, joining Tiff Needell and Vicky Butler-Henderson.
"I'm delighted to be joining the Fifth Gear team," Collins was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. "And I am looking forward to a new set of exciting challenges, apparently with and without the helmet."
The move comes after last week Collins said that he was planning to start his own show, in which he will use a multitude of ideas that were refused by the BBC over the years.
Collins will have a role similar to the one played at Top Gear but will also be one of the show’s hosts. For the beginning, Collins will star in at least five episodes of the new Fith Gear Series.
We’ll remind you that the BBC decided to end the collaboration with Collins after the news spread out that he was about to publish a book describing his racing life, including the “Stig job”. The BBC tried to prevent the book from being published but the whole story went to court and Collins won.
