The Seven Worst-Built Cars on U.S. Roads are American

Forbes.com's list of worst-made cars on American roads today is dominated by local manufacturers. Four of the seven vehicles on the website’s list come from GM brands, the three remaining cars being also made by American companies. Only one of them is built by Ford Motor Company.

Forbes.com determined the list by comparing four reliability and performance studies conducted this year. These are "Consumer Reports: The Most Reliable Cars Report", "Best and Worst Values Report", "Best and Worst Safety Performance Survey" and the CR overall scores for 2010 vehicles. Additionally, the results of J.D. Power & Associates’s Vehicle Dependability Study were also taken into account.

Any car, truck or SUV named among the worst in at least three of those five total studies made the final cut to be on the "Worst-Made" list. Forbes.com’s biggest surprise was that it doesn’t include any Toyota-made vehicles, in spite of the recall scandal that has put the brand in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

The list did, however, include General Motors vehicles. No less than four of them: the Cadillac Escalade, the Chevrolet Aveo, the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon. Chrysler entered the shame list with two cars, the Dodge Nitro and the Jeep Wrangler (the absolute "winner"), while Ford’s only entry is the F250 pickup truck.

An interesting fact is that the Aveo is the only car in the list, the rest being SUV’s and pickup trucks. But here’s the Forbes.com reliability ranking, from the least worst-built to the worst-built car in the U.S.: 7. Cadillac Escalade, 6. Chevrolet Aveo, 5. Chevrolet Colorado, 4. Dodge Nitro, 3. Ford F-250, 2. GMC Canyon, 1. Jeep Wrangler.
