The next generation Toyota Hilux is finally coming to replace the current 10 years old version, which, lets be honest, is a capable and reliable machine but it can’t stand agains the VW Amarok or Ford Ranger when it comes to looks and interior finish.
Soon enough the issue will get solved as this new batch of spy photos shows us. The next Hilux appears to have grew to a more mature shape. Long gone are the huge ugly headlamps and the 90’s style bumpers.

The new model adopts more of Toyota’s Keen Look design, coming with slimmer, longer headlamps incorporating a thin strip of LED daytime running lights, a narrower upper grille, the overly-used trapezoidal lower vent as well as more sharper side lines.

The hood appears to be slightly more bulged at the tip and those old arched fenders appearing to be simply sticked to the body are now gone, with some more muscly one-piece fenders replacing them now.

Overall, there’s not a dramatic change of design, like the new 2014 Corolla received for example, but it adds up to create a more sturdy-looking modern pickup. And we’re sure the interior went the same road too, despite the fact we don’t have some photos to prove it now.

Being a global Toyota pickup, the Hilux is now offered in three cab-styles (Single Cab, Extended Cab and Crew Cab) along with a series of engines ranging from the small 2-liter inline-four gasoline unit in South Africa, Indonesia and Middle East, to the big 4-liter supercharger V6 found in Australia on the TRD model.

What will the next-generation Hilux come with? Well, there is still no information on that from the automaker, but because the model was caught being benchmarked against a Volkswagen Amarok, expect the pickup to boast more interior space as well as more upscale materials; maybe some new off-road electronic tools too.

As with the engine range, it might be improved, but most of it could be formed of carried-over units, both diesel and gasoline. A 2.5-liter or 3-liter diesel units might be offered for the average needs, while an optional 4-liter V6 should be on the optionals list for more bang.
